Scrimshaw I

Scrimshaw I

SKU: SQ6221580

Scrimshaw is the engraving on bone or ivory. Australia’s whaling dates back to 1791 and sailors on whalers carved whale teeth to pass time. The bones were burned as fuel so I have sketched in charcoal to mark the history.

This sea-faring vessel is in full sail and is loosely sketched in charcoal on a whale ‘tooth’.

The background is a deep dark blue black is painted in oils.

The frame is a Tasmanian oak but can be shipped unframed if preferred at a reduced price of $1650-please contact me.
