This Nautical art print captures history and elegance in a neutral cream and a deep indigo navy. This high quality print looks almost like the original the quality of the printing on the textured canvas makes it hard to differentiate from the an original painting.
Scrimshaw is the engraving on bone or ivory. Australia’s whaling dates back to 1791 and sailors on whalers carved whale teeth to pass time. The bones were burned as fuel so I have sketched in charcoal to mark the history.
This sea-faring vessel is in full sail and the original painting is sketched in charcoal on a whale ‘tooth’.
The background is a deep dark blue.
